In his Closing Speech, MCMTC’s President Mr. Martin Ang, highlighted the vital role of Malaysia’s Mid-Tier Companies (MTCs) in driving the nation’s economic growth. This AGM marked a significant milestone for MCMTC as it concluded the Council term for 2024–2026 and ushered in a newly elected Council for the 2026–2028 term. It was an evening filled with meaningful engagement and knowledge sharing among members, both longstanding and new.

The event was emceed by our member, Ms Michelle Lau, Project Director of QUBE Integrated Sdn Bhd. The programme commenced with a welcome address by President Mr Martin Ang, who presented his President’s report, highlighting MCMTC’s achievements, initiatives, and growth throughout his presidency from 2024 to 2026. Following the President’s Report, Mr Chu Chee Seng then presented his Treasurer’s Report, which was followed by the appointment of the Auditor for 2026.

The introduction of nominees standing for election to the new Council followed next. There was a total of 20 nominees vying for the 12 Council positions. Ballots were cast and the newly elected MCMTC Council Members for the 2026–2028 term are as follows:

A key highlight of the AGM was the fireside chat titled “Road to IPO – Why Not?”, featuring Ms Christina Tee of Cape EMS Berhad and Mr Tai Qi Sheng of GIIB Holdings Berhad, moderated by Mr Andrew Khoo of MUI Group. The session provided members with candid insights into the realities, challenges, and “ugly” perspectives involved in the journey from initial public listing to present day (post listing).

The programme also featured a special sharing session by Ms Crystal Lim, a B2B LinkedIn influencer, who shared practical insights on personal branding, thought leadership, and leveraging LinkedIn as a strategic platform for business growth and professional networking.

The evening continued with an engaging panel discussion titled “From Malaysia to the World: Unlocking Cross-Border and International Wealth with the Right Network and Partner.” Moderated by Mr Andrew Lim of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad, the panel featured Mr Pallav Garg of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia, Mr Andy Yeap of Kawan Food Berhad, and Mr Lim Chee Yoong of Thumbprints Utd. Sdn Bhd. The discussion explored strategies for international expansion, cross-border opportunities, wealth creation, and the importance of building the right partnerships to support global growth.

The AGM concluded with closing remarks by MCMTC Honorary President Mr Callum Chen, followed by a networking dinner that provided members with an excellent opportunity to reconnect, exchange ideas, and strengthen business relationships.

The programme welcomed 24 new mid-tier companies from diverse sectors, including electrical and electronics, oil and gas, construction, pharmaceuticals, logistics, automotive, professional services, and food and beverage, equipping them to compete successfully in the global marketplace.

Since its launch in 2014, the MTCDP has empowered 370 Malaysian mid-tier companies through tailored capability-building initiatives designed to strengthen export competitiveness and accelerate international growth. MCMTC itself was born from the success of the MTCDP. Established on 1 November 2017, the Consortium grew out of an informal CEO network formed by graduates from Waves 1 to 4, united by a shared vision to strengthen collaboration among Malaysia’s Mid-Tier Companies (MTCs).

Over the years, MCMTC has worked closely with MATRADE to champion the interests of Malaysian Mid-Tier Companies and serve as their collective voice, particularly during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. This close relationship was further reinforced with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 25 February 2025, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing Business Capability Building, Market Access Expansion, and Halal Market Leadership.

China Mobile International’s team presented their global and Asia-Pacific AI intelligent computing strategy, which included an AI Intelligent Computing Center set up in Malaysia. They shared insights as well as scalable digital solutions tailored for Malaysian mid-tier companies and SMEs, focusing on practical applications of 5G connectivity, AI-enabled smart factories and warehouses, as well as AI training to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness. Discussion covered AI intelligent computing services, large language models, AI agent applications, DICT, training & trading/ distribution. It was established that there are high collaboration potential with our members.

Hon. President Mr Callum Chen emphasised that any proposed solutions must be cost-effective and adaptable to the scale of mid-tier companies and SMEs. As a next step, MCMTC will circulate industry-focused questions to better understand
members’ requirements, followed by a larger engagement session featuring local technology players to foster collaboration in supporting manufacturers and service providers.

This event was organized in conjunction with the official visit of the Governor of Syrdarya Region of Uzbekistan H.E. Mr. Erkinjon Turdimov. It provided a meaningful platform to deepen bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Malaysia and Uzbekistan, particularly in the Syrdarya region.

The presentations highlighted Syrdarya’s growing economic direction, focusing on IT outsourcing, digital innovation, tourism, logistics, and regional development. These insights offered participants a clearer understanding of the region’s investment landscape and future growth avenues. H.E. Dr. Karomidin Gadoev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Malaysia, also shared valuable perspectives on strengthening economic ties between both countries. The presence of Mr. S. Jai Shankar, Deputy C.E.O. of MATRADE, further reinforced the importance of collaboration and fostering stronger Malaysia–Uzbekistan trade relations.

Participating Malaysian companies were able to explore and establish new commercial connections with the Uzbekistan companies at the business networking and focussed B2B sessions.

President Mr Martin Ang kickstarted the event with a brief recap of MCMTC’s journey and shared key events of 2025. The highlights were the introductions of our esteemed Advisors: Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon, the Chairperson of Royal Selangor, who has been MCMTC’s Advisor since 2020 and Dato’ Sri Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz​ (former CEO of MATRADE) and Dato’​ Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja (former D​eputy CEO of MIDA), the latter two who agreed to come on board in 2026.

Our distinguished guests: the CEO of Invest Melaka, YBhg. Datuk Ginie Lim, and the Founder of BFM, Mr Malik Ali, also took to the stage and both shared insights in their respective fields. Mr Noor Mohamed Amin bin Mohamed then introduced Navigator Global, MBSB’s digital platform which is designed to help businesses simplify cross-border trade and expand into global markets with greater confidence and efficiency. The evening was made even more special as we celebrated Mr Noor’s birthday with a surprise cake & birthday song!

Laughter abounded at the Council Members Q&A session, where our Council Members came on stage and addressed questions raised by members.  Warm camaraderie and solidarity were clearly shown. We also had the opportunity to showcase and warmly welcome new members who joined in 2025.

The event concluded on a festive note with a networking dinner and a traditional Lou Sang session, symbolising prosperity, unity, and positive beginnings for the year ahead. Following the conclusion of Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 on 30th June 2025, the next phase for Malaysian solar adoption is the Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme (Solar ATAP), effective from 1st January 2026.

Group CEO & Co-Founder of Plus Xnergy, Mr. Ko Chuan Zhen, delivered the Welcome Speech. Mr Ryan Oh, Executive Director of Plus Xnergy, then proceeded to share how businesses can move beyond NEM by adopting smarter energy solutions, digital systems and automation to improve efficiency, lower operating costs and strengthen long-term competitiveness.

The session also covered government incentives, grants and green financing schemes and how they can be strategically leveraged to support investments in solar energy, energy management systems, smart manufacturing and digital transformation. Thank you to MGTC (Malaysian Green Tech and Climate Change Corporation) for sharing.

The session concluded with an engaging fireside chat, where participants raised practical questions on Solar ATAP implementation pathways, available grants and incentives.
