Dialogue with the Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Malaysia- H.E. Dr. Karomidin Gadoev

MCMTC visited His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Karomidin Gadoev and his team at the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Malaysia. We were warmly received by His Excellency Dr. Gadoev, Counselor Mr. Akram Rizaev, Trade & Economic Counselor, Mr
Mutalibjo Khojimurotov, Mr. Botir Ismoilov and other members of the team. MCMTC’s delegation consisted of a total of 16 representatives from 11 member companies.

It was an enjoyable and engaging session with the Ambassador and his team. We were treated to an array of interesting and delicious Uzbekistan dried fruits and nuts throughout the ‘roundtable’ dialogue. Each of our member companies had the opportunity to present their company (products & services) and also to pose their questions to His Excellency. His Excellency openly shared his insights and his personal experience with our members’ products when he first arrived in Malaysia not too long ago! We were proud to note that we were served Spritzer Natural Mineral Water and that Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tarts from Secret Recipe were on the Tea Break menu!

Counselor Mutalibjon then shared valuable insights on Investments Incentives offered by Uzbekistan. He also presented various Investment Proposals especially tailored for MCMTC members, covering agricultural produce, livestock, electrical & electronics,
textiles, medical and many others. Uzbekistan is also positioning itself as an IT Hub with ready infrastructure and talents. It has the largest population in Central Asia and His Excellency also shared a few success stories of our Malaysian companies in Uzbekistan.

President Martin Ang presented His Excellency with a copy of the MCMTC Book and alsoinvited His Excellency and Uzbekistan companies to participate in the upcoming MCMTC – ASEANplus++ event in November, titled WE2025.

Key takeaways:

  1. Population of Uzbekistan – Uzbekistan has the largest population among the five Central Asian countries, with approximately 36 million people. This is larger than Malaysia’s population of about 33 million.
  2. Uzbekistan is involved in new and ongoing international transport initiatives, the Trans-Asian Railway and China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan rail corridor, which are part of wider connectivity projects linking Central Asia to Southeast Asia via Laos and Thailand.
  3. The Government of Uzbekistan actively promotes foreign investment, particularly in sectors like manufacturing, logistics, and infrastructure.
  4. A Special Industrial Zone (SIZ) has been established – a Malaysia Zone – in the Tashkent region with over 120 hectares of land allocated for development by MMC (Malaysia Mining Corporation Bhd).
  5. Uzbekistan has a strong agricultural base with low production costs. It is also a leading producer of melons, dried apricots, raisins, cherries, and nectarines.
  6. Uzbeks work hard and quickly. His Excellency shared that Uzbek Ambassadors worldwide have been given the mandate to promote the potential economic opportunities in Uzbekistan. It is envisioned that transformation will happen very rapidly and Malaysians should seize their opportunities now.

It was truly an insightful visit and we are looking forward to visiting Uzbekistan in the very
near future!
