Official Launch of MyCC Market Review on the Digital Economy Ecosystem

On 10 February 2026, MCMTC attended the launch of the Market Review on the Digital Economy Ecosystem by the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC), held at PARKROYAL Collection Kuala Lumpur. The event gathered representatives from ministries, government agencies, industry players, consumer organisations, and academia to discuss Malaysia’s rapidly growing digital economy.

The review, conducted over 18 months under the Competition Act 2010, examined four key sectors: mobile operating systems and payments, e-commerce, digital advertising, and online travel agencies (OTAs). It aims to address regulatory gaps, curb anti-competitive practices such as high commissions and excessive data control, and measures to safeguard data privacy, fair competition and consumer welfare, particularly to support MSMEs and ensure inclusive growth.

MyCC proposed 18 recommendations, including strengthening regulatory frameworks, improving transparency and data access and implementing strategic initiatives to protect the interests of consumers and MSMEs within the digital ecosystem.

Another key highlight of the event is the panel discussion titled “From Review to Reform: Strengthening Competition in the Malaysian Digital Ecosystem through Regulatory Cooperation,”. The discussion examined how Malaysia can move from
policy review to effective regulatory reform through stronger cross-agency coordination. Panellists highlighted the need to close regulatory gaps while enhancing cybersecurity, data governance and platform transparency.

MCMTC remains committed to supporting policies that safeguard fair competition while enabling businesses to scale sustainably in the digital economy.
