On 2 April 2026, MCMTC organised a factory visit to Spritzer Berhad in Taiping, hosted by our Council Member Mr Kenny Lim, the Group CEO of Spritzer. The visit provided members with valuable insights into Malaysia’s leading bottled water producer and its integrated operations.

MCMTC members from the northern states and the Klang Valley were treated to a delicious networking lunch at the STG Café at Eco Park. Other key attractions at the Eco Park include the signature Cactus Rock, Mini Golf area and Souvenir Shop, all part of the Spritzer’s brand experience and eco-tourism initiatives.

After lunch, we moved over to the Water Bar where we were given a quick introduction of Spritzer’s business and equipped individually with state-of-the-art headsets (and hairnets) for the factory tour. Spritzer’s strong commitment to quality and sustainability is everywhere. The ‘plant’ is located within a 400 ha eco park and the natural mineral water is drawn from a 200-million-year-old aquifer, bottled untouched by human hands – from the bottle manufacturing (using food-grade recycled resins) to bottle rinsing, filling, capping, to packing (shrink or cartons, depending on variant) and onto AGVs (automated guided vehicles) delivering straight to the Automated Warehouse and for loading directly onto forklifts and onto the delivery trucks! We were also jokingly informed that the lights on the factory floor were switched on for our benefit as lights are not really required.

Read more about Spritzer here: https://www.spritzer.com.my/story

MCMTC extends its appreciation to Mr Kenny Lim and the Spritzer team for their warm hospitality and generous sharing of insights. MCMTC’s factory visits are about witnessing first hand operational excellence, sustainable business practices and strong leadership with foresight. It is about inspiring real-life stories, knowledge sharing and fostering stronger industry connections.

Remember to sign up for the next inspiring factory visit scheduled for the 2nd half of 2026!

On 10 February 2026, MCMTC attended the launch of the Market Review on the Digital Economy Ecosystem by the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC), held at PARKROYAL Collection Kuala Lumpur. The event gathered representatives from ministries, government agencies, industry players, consumer organisations, and academia to discuss Malaysia’s rapidly growing digital economy.

The review, conducted over 18 months under the Competition Act 2010, examined four key sectors: mobile operating systems and payments, e-commerce, digital advertising, and online travel agencies (OTAs). It aims to address regulatory gaps, curb anti-competitive practices such as high commissions and excessive data control, and measures to safeguard data privacy, fair competition and consumer welfare, particularly to support MSMEs and ensure inclusive growth.

MyCC proposed 18 recommendations, including strengthening regulatory frameworks, improving transparency and data access and implementing strategic initiatives to protect the interests of consumers and MSMEs within the digital ecosystem.

Another key highlight of the event is the panel discussion titled “From Review to Reform: Strengthening Competition in the Malaysian Digital Ecosystem through Regulatory Cooperation,”. The discussion examined how Malaysia can move from
policy review to effective regulatory reform through stronger cross-agency coordination. Panellists highlighted the need to close regulatory gaps while enhancing cybersecurity, data governance and platform transparency.

MCMTC remains committed to supporting policies that safeguard fair competition while enabling businesses to scale sustainably in the digital economy.

The Forum Ekonomi Malaysia (FEM) 2026 was held at KLCC on 5th February 2026. The forum served as a high-level platform bringing together national leaders, policymakers, industry stakeholders and strategic investors to deliberate on Malaysia’s economic direction amid an evolving global landscape. With the theme “Accelerating Growth, Advancing Malaysia”, FEM 2026 highlighted the importance of turning policies into measurable outcomes in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.

Minister of Economy YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah bin Haji Mohd Nasir emphasised that FEM 2026 is not about introducing new policies, but about tracking their implementation and outcomes, particularly under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and the Malaysia MADANI framework. Emphasis was placed on strengthening inter-agency coordination and ensuring alignment with the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and the Malaysia MADANI framework, reinforcing a shift towards outcome-based governance, strengthening resilience and ensuring that Malaysia’s growth is inclusive, sustainable and truly for our rakyat.

The 13th Malaysia Plan took centre stage, highlighting structural reforms, digital transformation and sustainable high-value growth as part of Malaysia’s transition from “Made in Malaysia” to “Made by Malaysia.” Panel discussions spanned a wide range of critical themes, including digitalisation, AI and technology, sustainability and energy transition, healthcare reform, trade and investment, talent development, housing reform, ageing demographics, and as well as fiscal and monetary policies, underscore the multi-dimensional nature of Malaysia’s growth agenda.

The key takeaways from the keynote address of Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim:

Economic growth must must translate into tangible benefits for the rakyat.

Malaysia recorded GDP growth of 4.9% in 2025, with inflation contained at 1.6%.

Unemployment fell to 2.9%, the lowest rate in a decade.

The Malaysian ringgit reached its strongest position in five years.

Education remains a national priority, with allocations exceeding RM84 billion under Budget 2026.

Initiatives, such as the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), were highlighted as factors for investment, job creation, and regional integration.

MCMTC remains committed to working with policymakers and industry partners to ensure Malaysian mid-tier companies play a strong role in driving inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economic growth.

27 January 2026 : MCMTC attended a full-day programme organised by MATRADE, which started with the Exporters’ Onboarding Programme and followed by the Post Announcement of Malaysia’s Trade Performance 2025: Shaping New Opportunities in the afternoon session.

The morning session focused on equipping exporters with the right tools and support to expand globally. Participants gained valuable insights into export promotion initiatives and digital trade programmes, alongside sharing sessions by returning Trade Commissioners covering ASEAN & East Asia, Central, West, South Asia & Africa, Europe and Americas Their on-the-ground perspectives enabled participants to better understand export trends, market dynamics and opportunities in targeted regions.

In the afternoon, the announcement of Malaysia’s Trade Performance 2025 marked a significant milestone, Chairman of MATRADE Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said that Malaysia is recording a historic trade value of RM3.06 trillion, exports rose by 6.5% to RM1.61 trillion, while imports increased by 6.3% to RM1.45 trillion, resulting in a trade surplus of RM151.80 billion ( a 9.2% increase). This achievement reflects the resilience and competitiveness of Malaysian exporters despite global uncertainties.

MATRADE highlighted their market diversification strategy, expanding into non-traditional markets across Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. By broadening trade relations beyond traditional markets and strengthening ties with emerging economies, Malaysia can reduce reliance on any single region and build a more resilient trade ecosystem.

MATRADE and MITI also outlined strategies for 2026, focusing on market diversification, export development, and digitalisation in line with the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and the MADANI Economy Framework, to capitalise on the strong performance achieved in 2025 and shape new trade opportunities in 2026 and beyond. Participants were also introduced to the new Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry(MITI), YB Tuan Sim Tze Tzin, who attended on behalf of the Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry (MITI) , Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

MCMTC was pleased to be part of this meaningful programme and supports MATRADE’s continuous efforts in empowering exporters. We remain committed to guiding our members in leveraging these platforms to unlock new opportunities and strengthen their journey towards #GoingGlobal.

30 September 2025. The MBSB Group Anchor Companies Open Day & Vendor Business Matching Sessions was held at the Sime Darby Convention Centre.

Co-organised by MBSB Group and MIDF, the event connected over 400 SMEs and MTCs with 20 anchor companies, including Malaysia Airlines, PERODUA, PLUS, etc to explore potential business collaborations. Quite a few of our MCMTC members were selected to participate in the event as verified suppliers, pitching to the 20 anchor companies. Kudos to the MBSB Group & MIDF for a successful event.

The highlight of the event was the official launch of the GLOMAX programme by YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry. GLOMAX (Global Market Access Accelerator) has a RM100million fund and the programme combines financing with advisory support for SMEs and MTCs. It aims to help high-potential SMEs and mid-tier companies to become export-ready, strengthen supply-chain credibility and access working capital that grows with performance. MCMTC is honored to be invited to be one of the strategic partners for this Programme, which also brings together ecosystem enablers such as the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade), SME Corp, Malaysian Technology Development Corp (MTDC) and Malaysia Design Development Centre (DDEC).

On 23 September 2025, MATRADE officially launched the final cohort (Wave 12) of the Mid-Tier Companies Development Programme (MTCDP) under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan, while celebrating the graduation of Wave 11.

Representing MCMTC, our Hon. President Mr. Callum Chen attended the launch event held at The Majestic Kuala Lumpur. The programme welcomed 24 new mid-tier companies from diverse sectors including energy, healthcare, biotech, digital & fintech, agribusiness, and food & beverage.

Launched in 2014, the MTCDP has successfully groomed 370 mid-tier companies with tailored programmes boosting export competitiveness and global growth. The “birth” of MCMTC on 1 November 2017 stemmed from the MTCDP where the graduating companies came together to form an informal CEO club to strengthen its network. Our founding members were graduates from Wave 1 to Wave 4. Since then, MCMTC has been working closely with MATRADE to become the voice of the MTCs to the Government, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. On 25th Feb 2025, we further strengthened our close ties with MATRADE with an MOU where both parties endeavour to take necessary steps to encourage and promote trade cooperation and collaboration in the areas of Business Capability Building, Market Access Expansion and Halal Market Leadership.

Find out more about the MTCDP here: https://www.matrade.gov.my/en/export-to-the-world/trade-facilitation-page/mid-tier-companies-development-programme-mtcdp

Going forward, MATRADE aims to sustain momentum into the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (13MP) with stronger strategies and deeper industry engagement. MCMTC highly values its close relationship with MATRADE and looks forward to building more #globalchampions together with MATRADE.
