Mr. Callum Chen, the President of MCMTC gave his speech this morning at the Empowering Young Minds Event in the Mind Scape Auditorium, Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. Following is his speech.

“Empowering Young Minds”

On behalf of the Malaysian Consortium of Mid-Tier Companies (MCMTC), we are honoured and thank YB Tuan Haji Salahuddin Ayub, the Honorable Minister of Agriculture for gracing MCMTC “Empowering Young Minds” event. We are also very happy to have Dr. Shahreen Madros, CEO of MATRADE and Puan Sharimaton, Deputy CEO of MATRADE joining us here today. MCMTC expresses gratitude to MATRADE for all their support.
I would also like to thank my colleagues at the council, members of MCMTC, all participants and the press. A special thanks to all the Mid-Tier Companies that have generously donated to the Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM). MCMTC is only 7 months old, with 40 members, and together we have raised RM 410,000.00 for THM within a week. This feat expresses the core of MCMTC that exist to provide a platform for Mid-Tier Companies (MTC) to share and increase business opportunities so that we can transform from Mid-Tier to global champions. In less than 6 months, we have achieved a number of milestones, which includes our inaugural visit to China, two local factory tours and today, our first event.
The theme for today’s youth event is important. Many Mid-Tier Companies are managed by 2 generations concurrently; eventually it is our Youth who will succeed us. As seniors to the business, we hold a huge responsibility and trust to ensure sustainability and that the leaders of tomorrow are equipped to face the challenges and become socially conscious and contributing citizens to our country. It is our hope that the presentation of the THM mock cheque today, will inspire our youth, and create awareness of their critical role and stake in building this nation.
I also want to take this opportunity to highlight some of our past activities which have been a catalyst in expanding many business opportunities for MCMTC members.
As business owners, we must be ready to adapt and change due to the rapid development of technology. Forecasting, responding and embracing challenges swiftly are critical to the sustainability of our businesses. Therefore, MCMTC seeks to be that window of exploration, education and opportunity for all of us.
In November 2017, MCMTC members visited China. This was MCMTC first international visit which helped members expand their network and gain business prospects. In China, our exposure to corporations like Alibaba, FoodStar, Suzhou Business Park and Bank of China was an eye opener. To be able to view the success and challenges of these entities as an insider helped many of us in rethinking and deploying new tactics in our businesses.
Apart from international visits, we will continue to host more local factory tours and CEO sharing sessions, as well. The local member factory tours have proven to be beneficial and fruitful for all participants. It is during such time, where all of us CEOs are able to candidly share our experiences, challenges and constructive feedback. Personally, I have gained tremendously from the members feedback during the LH Plus factory tour, and I am sure Bodibasixs who hosted the
last tour, has benefitted from the ideas of the CEOs gathered too. I want to take this opportunity to thank Bodibasixs for opening your doors in April 2018 and thank you Mega Fortris for hosting the next tour which will be held on the 15th of August 2018.
Just as there has been much business activities and sharing in the past few months, I believe that going forward, we will be much stronger and able to provide more and more value each day to every member. Additionally, while we gain so much between us, we hope to leave a legacy, to motivate and prepare our next generation of leaders. Therefore, we will continue to engage both generations frequently.
With this, I would like to thank everyone here again, including the speakers for contributing to this inspiring event.
